God loves you as a good father loves his child. You can climb on His lap and tell Him everything. He sees your tears in the night and wants to help. Ask Him for what you need.

If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to Me, you’ll find both yourself and Me.

Past Questions of the Month:

Hope and Assurance

This website was created for those acquainted with mental illness and in need of hope and assurance.

Question of the Month

I take an antidepressant, an antipsychotic and another antidepressant to help me sleep. I do not like taking medication. I feel I should be able to do without it. I try to reduce the dosage on my own and often find myself without medication. While on the medication, I do very well. Without it, I invariably have problems. Can you help me?

Taking medication is hard. It is expensive and the side affects that must be dealt with can be frustrating and sometimes daunting. Some of us know we will probably be taking medication for the rest of our lives and that can add to our resistance. We want back our control of this area of our life.

We’re used to fixing problems, juggling hectic schedules, aiming for the best and the most, accomplishing what’s on our to do list, raising children while holding down another job, supervising others, and heading up committees and companies.

We don’t like feeling weak and a failure at solving our own problems. We’re ashamed to think how powerless and inadequate we must look to others. The strong call of the expectations of others makes us feel we must always prove ourselves.

God comes to us in our most vulnerable and weak areas. It is here He will be able to get through to touch us. When the pain reaches a certain point, we will be most willing to listen. It is when we can no longer do something on our own that we will call out His name. When we’ve lost control, we find the time to pray. When we’ve exhausted all our resources, then we’re ready to take to heart what God’s Word says.

Our frailty has a purpose. It is designed to bring us into the presence of God. As we move closer and closer to Him, one day we see His motive clearly – a love so committed to us that He was willing to do whatever it took to have a relationship with us.

So what appears to be a flaw in our makeup and a reason for remorse may be the divine embrace yearning to bless us, love us, and make us most useable and complete.

Don’t resist any longer. Just yield and lean into Him. Let all your defenses fall at His feet. Allow His love to cover you with His sweet peace…and rest.
